On October 13, 2024, Vice President of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, made a harsh statement on his Telegram channel, commenting on the words of the former Chief of the Polish General Staff, Raimund Andrzejczak. Medvedev resorted to insulting comments against Poland and Andrzejczak personally, calling Poland “spit-stained” and the Polish military man “a brave pszek.”
This reaction followed Andrzejczak’s statement at the Defending Baltics conference, where he noted that in the event of a Russian invasion of the Baltics, Poland would respond with an immediate attack on strategic targets, including St. Petersburg. Andrzejczak stressed that the answer will come “not on the first day, but in the first minute.” Medvedev responded by saying that Andrzejczak should remember the partitions of Poland and the history of its membership in the Russian Empire, adding that there is no need to “awaken the beast.”
This statement by Medvedev became another example of his aggressive rhetoric, which he often uses against Western countries and their representatives in the context of the tense geopolitical situation between Russia and Europe.
