Metro re-opens tender for abandoned Los Berrocales station project

The Community of Madrid has launched a new tender for the contract to develop the construction project for the new metro station, which will be built on line 9, in the area of the Ahijones and Berrocales housing estates, after it was cancelled during the process that was released in February.

This is the same file that remained void because no offer was submitted and which is now subject to a new call for tenders by a negotiated procedure and without advertising, according to what appears in the supporting report of the contract, consulted by Ep.

The basic budget of the contract is 352,717.37 euros (VAT included) and the execution period is 14 months, with work scheduled to start in early 2027. Last July, the Governing Council approved the launch of this procedure.

“The current file has not undergone any substantial changes compared to the one previously submitted,” they explain to the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure.

The station is expected to be operational in 2029 and will be located between Puerta de Arganda and Rivas Urbanizacións, where the General Urban Plan of Madrid provides for a land reserve for this purpose.

When the new station is built, there will be no more connections on the entire line. The regional government has already announced that Metro will take over the management of line 9B (Puerta de Arganda-Arganda del Rey) in 2029, when the current concession of TFM (Transportes Ferroviarios de Madrid) ends.

This new station seeks to meet the new mobility demands of the Ahijones housing developments, where the construction of around 19,000 homes is planned, and Los Berrocales, which could exceed 22,000, as well as all the housing developments in the Southeast in general.

The intention being that it becomes a public transport hub for both residential and tertiary areas of future developments, it must therefore be designed with the priority objective of connecting with other modes of transport (cyclist, bus, individual vehicle, etc.).
