Mexico finds a succulent deal of 1.370 million euros on Independence Day

Mexico will obtain economic benefits of more than 30,394 million pesos (approximately 1,519 million dollars or 1,370 million euros) from the consumption of tourist services during the country’s national celebrations, around Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 15, according to the estimate of the Secretariat (Ministry) of Tourism (Sectur).

In a statement, the Secretary (Minister) of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, explained that the expected benefits extend from September 13 to 16. During this period, the official said that only Profits of 2.767 million pesos are expected from accommodation (approximately 138.4 million dollars or 124.8 million euros).

This is related to the Estimated arrival of 1.19 million tourists to hotels, of which 924,000 are expected to be Mexican tourists, or 77.6% of the total; and 268,000 will be foreigners, the remaining 22.4%.

“In this period of national holidays, 1.42 million more Mexican tourists will stay in other forms of accommodationsuch as in the homes of family and friends, as well as in second homes; Therefore, the total number of domestic tourists is estimated at 2.3 million tourists during this period,” he added.

In addition, he expects an additional 180,000 domestic and foreign tourists to stay via digital platforms. Torruco also reported that the hotel occupancy throughout the Mexican territory during this short holiday period will be 59.5%.

The destinations with the highest number of tourists will be the Riviera Mayawith a hotel occupancy rate of 73.6%; followed by Cancún (71.6%); Los Cabos (70.1%); Mazatlan (69.9%); Mexico City (69.6%); Puerto Vallarta (68.8%); Monterrey (64.2%); Mérida (64.3%); Veracruz (60.7%); Bays of Huatulco (60.2%); and Guadalajara (59.5%).

Torruco also highlighted the importance of national and foreign tourism during this holiday period, because, he said, “This will generate economic benefits in various tourist locations in Mexico for the benefit of the local population.”.
