MiG-21 was discovered in a used car shop in Germany

A Soviet-era MiG-21 fighter jet has been discovered at a used car dealership in eastern Germany.

Oku.Az This was reported by the newspaper “Bild”.

The fighter jet is reportedly in the parking lot in front of a car dealership in the city of Stendal (federal state of Saxony-Anhalt). A note on the plane says that, unlike the cars nearby, it is not for sale. The shop is currently closed and the owner is on vacation.

The newspaper notes that the fighter bears the insignia of the Bundeswehr. The aircraft probably entered service in the GDR in 1972 and was part of the 3rd Vladimir Komarov Fighter Squadron based in Cottbus (Brandenburg). After German reunification in 1990, the fighter was adopted by the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), but was soon decommissioned due to technical obsolescence.

The fighter aircraft of the 3rd Squadron became the property of the Luftwaffe Museum in Berlin, some of them were later transferred to other museums and three were taken to the airfield in Dessau (Saxony-Anhalt). In 1994, Freytag was commissioned to transport a MiG-21 aircraft from Dessau to Stendal. The company purchased two more aircraft for a symbolic amount. It placed one of them on the roof of the office and the second in the courtyard of a recently discovered used car showroom.
