“I was at COP28 in Dubai. When I found out that Azerbaijan had been unanimously chosen as the venue for the next COP29 conference, on the one hand, of course, I was very happy, but on the other hand, I started “Because I understood that to organize such an event, Azerbaijan needs the most. “My friends and colleagues in various ministries and departments will have to do a great job.”
This was stated in an interview with AZERTAC by Mijaíl Gusmán, first deputy director general of the TASS agency.
“It is true that many different large-format events have been held in Azerbaijan, but so far no such large event has been organized. Think about it: more than 70 thousand participants, dozens of heads of state!… I thank everyone organizing committee and various departments of this organizing committee for such fantastic preparation. I pay my respects to their leaders,” said M. Gusman.
Emphasizing the successful selection of the COP29 venue, he said: “I must say, first of all, that it seems to me that the selection of the Baku Stadium as the center of all conferences was a very wise decision. Naturally, it has been transformed and It is suitable for holding all events, from the Summit of Heads of State to the work of journalists. Secondly, it has freed the city from excesses, everything is concentrated here. I spoke with my colleagues, with the people. officials, and even with the leaders, this shows that everything is thought out down to the smallest detail.
I know first-hand the people who are working day and night on the preparations for COP29. I must say that they put their life and intellect into ensuring the success of this event. The results were also immediately visible. I believe that the topic discussed here is also the most important topic for all of humanity. This, of course, will play an important role in ensuring that the world joins its efforts to combat dramatic climate change.
One of the most important issues, which I find very painful and which should concern everyone, is the sinking of the Caspian Sea. It’s just heartache, anguish for me. It is no coincidence that during the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev Special attention was paid to this topic and relevant tasks were assigned.
The discussed problems cannot be resolved in a month or even a year, but the main thing is that, as stated by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, a common effort will be made in the fight for global solidarity and a green world. “I think from this point of view you can say that today’s conference was a great success.”
Mr. Gusmán added that he does not know of any issue on which Russia and Azerbaijan have differences of opinion or cannot join forces. “Everything related to global problems, climate, ecology worries Azerbaijan and Russia equally. Of course, Russia is a big country, there are also northern problems, etc. For Azerbaijan, as I said, it is the problem of the Sea Caspian. But here mutual help is of great importance,” Gusman concluded.
