“Russia plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.”
This is reported to have been stated by the Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, in his speech at the COP29 leaders’ summit in Baku.
“We plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. We pay attention to increasing energy efficiency, developing electric transport and applying modern solutions in agriculture and forestry. In Russia, 85% of the energy balance is already generation” “clean” and low emissions. These are mainly gas, atomic energy and renewable sources,” he stated.
According to the prime minister, Russia has more than doubled its greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels.
Mr. Mishustin called for joint efforts in the fight against climate change and mentioned four priority areas of cooperation. He stated that these include the agreement of a new collective target for climate financing in the interests of developing countries, the inadmissibility of technological discrimination under the pretext of global warming, as well as the creation of a unified system for quality assessment of climate projects, as well as scientific information for effective decision-making on decarbonization and adaptation, includes strengthening community cooperation.
