Mine explosion in Iran: many dead and dozens trapped

A gas explosion at a coal mine in Iran’s South Khorasan province has killed at least 19 people and injured 17, state television reported.

There are still 30 people in the mine.

State television said the accident was caused by a methane gas explosion in blocks B and C of the mine operated by Madanjoo.

The total number of workers on the blocks at the time of the explosion was 69, the report said.

Iranian state media reported that the explosion occurred at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that Iran has threatened Israel again. Thus, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, told Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah that Israel would face a “crushing response from the axis of resistance.”

Salami made the announcement Thursday following attacks on Hezbollah pagers and radios over the previous two days that killed 37 people and wounded more than 2,900.

The “axis of resistance” refers to Iran-linked armed groups in the Middle East, including Lebanese Hezbollah, Yemeni Houthis and Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces.

Lebanon and Hezbollah blamed Israel for the attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday. Israel has not commented directly on the bombings, but security sources said they were likely carried out by the Mossad spy agency.

“Terrorist acts like this are undoubtedly the result of the desperation and constant failures of the Zionist regime. [Израиля]. There will soon be a crushing response to this from the axis of resistance, and we will witness the destruction of this criminal and bloodthirsty regime,” Salami’s message to Nasrallah said.
