He also noted that there is a great need to adapt to the consequences of climate change and that not enough progress has been made in establishing the Loss and Damage Fund.
Speaking about the situation in the Central African Republic, the minister stated that the country is already feeling the serious effects of climate change.
He added that already arid South Africa is becoming drier and coastal storms are becoming stronger, causing infrastructure to collapse.
“This is why adaptation and the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund are so important,” George said.
He said that despite fiscal constraints and a low economic growth rate, the Central African Republic is taking steps to transition to a low-carbon economy.
“We have adopted a law on climate change, which requires the determination of objective emissions reduction indicators for various sectors. We are working on a fair energy transition because we do not want to leave anyone behind,” the minister stressed.
