Belarus is ready to resume flights with Europe as soon as EU politicians lift all restrictions. This was announced today, November 18, by the director of the aviation department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic, Igor Golub.
In his words, Minsk did not interrupt “neither a month nor a day” its interaction with its partners through the international organization ICAO.
“Therefore, the decision lies with the politicians. “We will of course be ready to resume communications with Europe as soon as political obstacles are removed.” – said.
The director of the department noted that some European airlines are interested in resuming flights through Belarus, since flights over the republic significantly affect its economy.
“Flying over Belarus and the Russian Federation involves a very large expense. Having the direct opportunity to fly from Europe to the East, through Belarus, through Russia, of course, airlines are interested in going directly, without overflights and without spending extra money. And this interests us. Our skies are open, we have never put obstacles in the way of anyone, we are always willing to resume this dialogue and air traffic with European countries.” – noted Golub.
Recall that in June 2021 the European Union imposed restrictions on flights by European companies through Belarus and prohibited Belarusian airlines from using the airspace over Europe after the incident with the Ryanair plane. After that, the republic began to more actively develop air communications with Russia and a number of countries in the eastern direction. Belavia Airlines started flights to India, Qatar (charter) and from December 2024 it will start flying to China (Urumqi). In 2024 Minsk signed intergovernmental agreements on the organization of air services with Seychelles and Saudi Arabia. The Belarusian side is very willing to sign an intergovernmental agreement with Venezuela and Kenya.
