Moldova’s European integration should not be directed against Russia, presidential candidate Alexander Stoianoglo said today, September 6.

The former Attorney General said the European election should not become geopolitical or directed against anyone.

“It is absolutely clear that in order for the country to develop, we need to maintain relations with all our partners. I am convinced that relations with Russia should be mutually beneficial and pragmatic for Moldova. According to various estimates, up to half a million of our fellow citizens live in the Russian Federation, who financially feed our budget. We need to ensure that the rights and interests of these people are respected.” — Stoyanoglo wrote on his Telegram channel.

The former general prosecutor has become the first official candidate for the presidency of Moldova, having submitted the required number of signatures to the Central Election Commission. He declares himself an independent candidate, officially supported by the Socialist Party. Igor DodonStoianoglo himself confirmed that, despite being a supporter of European integration, he has no political experience. However, he is confident that he will be able to “communicate with politicians who have not communicated with each other for several years.”

He still hopes that his candidate will make it to the second round and then the protest electorate will be consolidated.
