Monitoring of the last eight months on television channels: Nine serious violations were detected

As a result of monitoring carried out during the eight months of this year, nine serious violations were discovered on the air of television and radio channels.

This was reported by the Audiovisual Council in response to a query from “Informe”.

It was noted that due to these events, a general statement and warning (to all broadcasters regarding e-cigarette advertisements) and an official warning (for promoting early marriage) were issued to broadcasters.

In addition, programmes from four broadcasters were temporarily suspended. MTV was suspended for 8 hours for promoting discrimination, and ATV, ARB and “ARB Gunesh” were suspended for 3 hours each for copyright infringement.

In addition, two protocols were drawn up and sent to the court for failing to provide relevant licensing information in the advertisement of “Sahiyya TV”, and one protocol for providing “18+” content on ITV between 6:00 and 23:00.

The report also noted that there were violations caused by technical errors, including not playing the national anthem on the morning air (4 cases), broadcasting of advertising (58 cases), sponsorship (36 cases), state language (3 cases), including technical errors, violations related to declaring any person guilty without a court decision (2 charges), day of mourning (4 charges).

“As soon as such violations were recorded, notifications were sent to these broadcasters and the error was corrected,” the statement said.

The council also reported that there were citizen appeals related to the content on television channels, in total the council received 44 written appeals and 22 telephone appeals:

“In 62 of those requests, although the situation that occurred in the broadcast was interpreted by citizens as a violation, as a result of repeated monitoring, no violation was detected and citizens were provided with relevant information. The fact of violation concerned 4 requests (3 related to advertising and sponsorship, 3 related to the “18+” category) (a violation), in accordance with relevant legislation, in some cases appropriate recommendations have been given to broadcasters, in some cases sanctions have been applied and such citizens have been informed of it.”
