Palma City Hall, governed in a minority by the PP with a programmatic agreement with Vox, will have a budget in 2025 with more investments, 100 new police officers and 11 million less tax burden. For the second consecutive year, these will be the most expansive accounts in history with 605.6 million euros, or 13.5% more than the current year, but if we add municipal companies and public bodies, exceed 806 million.
During a press conference, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martinezhighlighted the fact that in all municipalities, public companies and autonomous bodies, the amounts for next year are increased.
Concretely, Jaime Martínez underlined strengthening in the area of citizen securitywith a budget that exceeds 136 million euros between the incorporation of hundreds of new agents and the purchase of new police vehicles; social spending, which amounts to 51.9 million euros; the items for Mobility, which increase from 44.7 to 51.2 million euros, or Sports, whose budget increases by ten million euros, to 37.7.
One of the most striking points of the budget is the increase in staff sectionwhich goes from 183.8 million euros in 2024 to 206.9. An increase of 12.5% which represents a clear turning point in personnel policies in recent years, with the creation of 206 positions in areas such as town planning, infrastructure, citizen security, treasury, legal services , etc.
With this, the municipal government “intends to provide the areas with the human resources necessary to respond to the services and needs of the neighborhoods and to be able to provide quality services to all citizens”, according to the municipal document which endorses the new accounts.
The area of citizen security is the one that undergoes a notable budgetary increase due to the improvement in the provision of human and material resources necessary to reverse the situation of inherited personnel shortage, materialized for the second time in this new budget, going from 111,995,375.42 euros in 2024 to 136,285,373.28 euros, or 21.69%. It includes the provision of 100 Local Police officers, 12 firefighters-drivers and the material resources necessary for their activity.
The investment necessary for the execution of the rescue of the Margalida Rigo fire station. Urban planning is one of the areas that significantly increases its budget, going from 20,729,522.27 euros to 37,294,091.92 euros, which represents an increase of 79.91%.
The general objective for the year 2025 of the urban planning area is to streamline municipal procedures related to urban planning as much as possible, promoting management derived from current urban planning and developing pending urban planning regulations, as the consolidated text of the new General Plan, the Detailed Management Plan (POD).
In addition, work will be carried out on the execution of effective housing policies to alleviate the residential emergency currently affecting Palma with the commitment to build 1,200 new homes at an assessed price. Finally, significant momentum will be given to the launch of new urban projects with a great impact on the urban fabric, with particular emphasis on strategic transformation projects that redefine the key spaces of the city, contributing to its modernization and social revitalization and economical.
This is the case of the renovation of the Plaza Mayor, the Torres del Temple, the new green space of Son Quint, the renovation of the Gesa building, the exhibition center, the Lluís Sitjar pavilion, the Metropolitan, etc.
The Social Services area which is another of the budgetary pillars, will be provided with a provision of 40.9 million, which represents an increase of 987,838.09 euros (2.47%) compared to 2024.
In this case, it was planned incorporation of workers programs EPASS (Social Services First Aid Team), ALTER (socio-educational program for young people aged 14 to 16 at risk of social exclusion or maladjustment to compulsory educational programs) and SIAD (Service d’Intégration des Disabled People). ) within the official structure of the municipal council.
