Christmas is here. Although the markets of the Alcántara and San Martín bridges as well as the Town Hall and Zocodover squares have been open since last weekend, we will have to wait until this Friday, November 29 to officially open the festivities, with lighting. It will be at 8:00 p.m., in the Plaza de Zocodover, with a large chocolate bar and a show by the students of the Diego Ortiz Municipal School.

On one of the coldest days of this fall, the councilor for the celebrations of the Toledo City Hall, José Vicente Garcia-Toledanopresented the program which presents, as a novelty, more illuminated areas, despite the fact that the winning company, Prilux, is still installing various decorations which, as confirmed by the councilor, will be ready this Friday throughout the city. There will be more than a million LED points, more durable and more economical lighting, which has allowed us to reduce the budget for this year’s programming, which amounts to just over 700,000 euros. Here the complete schedule.

Among the new features this year, the councilor highlighted the Polígono Christmas Circus, which will offer free performances every day, except December 24 and 31 and January 5. And the concerts, like the one proposed by José Mercé, on Sunday December 29 at the Palacio de Congresos and that of Raya Real on the 26th, also at the Palacio de Congresos. On the same day, the Cantajuego children’s group will perform in the Javier Lozano pavilion, with more capacity, and will carry out two sessions.

Like last year, Toledo City Hall has designed routes on bridges and throughout the city, to distribute visitors to different points of interest. One of the main ones will be Zocodover Square, with the large ten-meter balloon, with a sound show in several passages. And also the sleigh of the Cuesta de Carlos V, the Town Hall Square, with the Christmas market with typical sweets and the traditional carousel, the Christmas tree of San Juan de los Reyes and, as a novelty, the Garden of Transit Fairies, where the whole family “can enjoy special and innovative lighting and decoration”.

There will be a “Follow the Star” photocall and activities in the San Martín and Alcántara bridge markets, with the light tunnel, with visits also to the towers, a project promoted by the Economic Promotion Department of Juan Marin. The ice rink returns to the Sisebuto promenade and to the Bisagra gate the “Christmas Star”, although this year there will be no sound and light show.

Finally, the “Christmas Fair” will take place on Paseo Recaredo, which will include two days of 2×1 in attractions (December 12 and 19) and city schools will also be able to organize excursions, at a cost of 1.5 euros. García-Toledano thanked the work carried out by the education councilor, Daniel Morcillo“who reached an agreement with the businessman who won the Christmas fair, according to which all schools in Toledo will have one day to go to the fair at the price of 1.50 euros per attraction”.
