More than 10 beaches in Sydney have been closed due to oil pollution

More than 10 Sydney beaches have been closed due to oil pollution.

Oku.Az is reported with reference to TASS.

Australia’s New South Wales Environmental Protection Agency (NSW EPA) says thousands of tar balls have been found on the coast, caused by oil coming into contact with debris and seawater.

During the inspection of city beaches in the southeast of Sydney, black balls of petroleum products and garbage were found there.

“The total number of beaches where contamination has been recorded has reached 11. All of these recreation areas are partially or completely closed to visitors,” the department said.

It was noted that NSW EPA officials are currently conducting an analysis of the source of the pollution and the threat it poses to the environment and society.

Randwick City District Municipality, where the balls were first discovered, said beaches will be closed until litter collection and disposal is complete.
