More than 118,000 people were affected by floods that began after heavy rains in Sri Lanka.

It should be noted that residents of the island’s western and northern provinces suffered the greatest damage. As a result of the high water level, in one week, two people died and two people were injured to varying degrees. Some 76,000 people were evacuated, more than 230 residential buildings were completely or partially destroyed and schools were closed.
Water levels in local rivers remain high and forecasters have warned that weather conditions will continue over the next 24 hours.
