More than $20.7 billion needed to modernize Kazakhstan’s power sector

More than 10 trillion tenge ($20.7 billion) are needed to modernize Kazakhstan’s power sector, Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said at a meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to him, the level of wear and tear in 22 heat supply enterprises of the republic ranges from 65% to 90%, in 18 electricity supply enterprises the wear and tear ranges from 70% to 97%, in 13 water supply enterprises – from 70% to 100%, in 24 wastewater disposal enterprises – from 70% to 100%.

At the same time, Bozumbayev added, the average wear and tear of equipment in 55 energy-producing organizations is 56%.

“It is planned to raise money from four sources: national and international financial institutions, second-tier banks, budget and national funds, as well as owners of energy facilities.” – said.

The resolution on the approval of the national project for modernization of energy and utilities infrastructure, according to instructions of the Deputy Prime Minister, should be ready by November 1 of this year.
