More than half of French people are against Barnier’s appointment as prime minister: poll

57% of French people do not trust Michel Barnier, who was appointed Prime Minister by President Emmanuel Macron the day before. This is according to the results of a CSA survey for the television channel CNews, the radio station Europe 1 and the publication JDD.

The greatest distrust of Barnier is observed among the category of citizens under 35 years of age (70%), as well as among voters who voted for the left-wing bloc “New Popular Front” (78%).

“This continued decline illustrates the growing fatigue of the political class and a climate of widespread distrust towards successive leaders,” – the media write.

As JDD points out, the French tend to trust the authorities less and less. Thus, following the re-election of French President Emmanuel Macron for a second term in 2022, the prime minister appointed by him Elizabeth Bourne had the support of 53% of the population. When it was replaced Gabriel Atal48% spoke positively about him.

The survey was conducted online on September 5 and included 1,000 people aged 18 or over.
