Moreno warns that Andalusia is at the “peak” of its capacity to finance social services

“The Andalusian Government has reached the limit of its financial capacity in the field of health, education and social services” This is the opinion with which the president of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, received this Wednesday social entities and community groups, whom he urged to join in the demands to the central government to demand a solution to the underfunding of the region.

Moreno received them at the San Telmo Palace to update the challenges, this year with a message focused on community underfunding and “grievances” which for Andalusia means the Catalan concert.

In line with the strategy of mobilizing society against the fiscal pact, the Council warned on Wednesday the entities that make up the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (Cermi) in Andalusia that there is no capacity to increase resources and that, if they want to achieve their objectives, They will have to go to Moncloa.

“The margin we have is very limited. I want to start this meeting openly,” said Moreno, who stressed that the community does not have the capacity for debt “because the State must authorize it for us,” nor an updated financing model and that meets their needs “and in addition to that, very clear comparative grievances take place.

“I have to be realistic,” he justified. The Andalusian president stressed that currently more than 50% of regional resources are dedicated to health, education and social services.Other ministries have had to cut their budgets “focus resources on these three fundamental areas,” he stressed.

But this is something that cannot be extended further. “It will not be possible to move forward without the commitment of the government. We have an annual underfunding of 1.5 billion euros” he stressed.

At the same time, he warned that there were “evident movements of discontent towards Andalusia” and said that “if in an autonomous community 50% is put by the national government and another 50% by the autonomous government, here we also want the national government to contribute 50%.”

Moreno assured that recognizing that the Council has reached its “limit” can “generate discomfort,” but made it clear that “we will never fall into the populism and demagogy of going ahead and saying that we are going to solve this problem, even if” there is room for improvement “in terms of efficiency.”

This is why he asked civil society groups to conduct a “It is a wake-up call for those who have more resources and for those who have the economic capacity to distribute them.” because otherwise, “it will be difficult for us to achieve the objectives that have been set for us.”
