In the Czech Republic, 12 people have already died this year from whooping cough. This was reported by the State Institute of Health of the Republic.
The number of infections has reportedly risen more slowly in recent weeks than in previous months, with doctors reporting 2,333 new cases since the end of September. In total, more than 34,000 people have fallen ill since the beginning of the year. According to statistics, the total number of infected people in the current Czech Republic is the highest since the late 1950s, when vaccination against whooping cough began in what was then Czechoslovakia.
It should be noted that, in addition to the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, the disease is dangerous for young children who have not been vaccinated. This year, doctors diagnosed whooping cough in 615 children under one year old, two of whom died.
