Moscow and Minsk will develop a response to the refusal of third countries to extradite criminals

The main supervisory agencies of Belarus and Russia should develop a mechanism to respond to refusals by third countries to extradite criminal suspects, for political reasons. This was announced today, November 1, by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov.

“The issue raised today is relevant for the prosecutor’s offices of both countries, since, despite the high level of interaction between us in the organization of the search for people who have fled from justice, we face similar problems that require synchronization of efforts – he said at a meeting of the joint board of the general prosecutor’s offices of Belarus and the Russian Federation, at which the issue of supervision of the search for persons who committed crimes was discussed.

In his words, in recent years the attorney general’s offices of both countries have had to observe “an unconstructive and politically biased attitude on the part of the competent authorities of several foreign States, as well as international organizations, towards cooperation issues in general. . and the extradition of criminals in particular.

“There are mechanisms to respond to these types of actions. And today we will discuss them.” – noted Krasnov.

He also said that it is important for the supervision departments of the two countries to further improve information exchange in the area of operational investigative activities. In his words, it is necessary to resolve the issue of introducing video conferencing for conducting investigative actions with defendants from two countries, as well as a number of other urgent tasks.

Let us remember that Russia and Belarus actively cooperate in the police field. The joint board has met since 2008 to coordinate interaction between the prosecutors’ offices of the two countries. Since 2009, more than 60 different events have been held, including in 2024, in the field of combating sanctions pressure, corruption, dedicated to the review of judicial decisions in criminal cases, etc.
