Moscow is not pushing Baku and Yerevan towards early peace – EADaily, November 5, 2024 – Politics News, Russian News

The issue of concluding a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia requires not only the efforts of the parties to find mutually acceptable solutions, but also time. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting that Yerevan and Baku are announcing progress in preparing a peace treaty, but the final text has not yet been agreed upon.

— We welcome the important progress achieved within the framework of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Considering many years of hostility, hostilities and casualties on both sides, we understand how difficult it is for Baku and Yerevan to make progress on normalization. All this requires not only significant efforts on the part of the parties to find mutually acceptable solutions, but also time. For this reason, unlike Western pseudo-mediators, we do not pressure our partners to hastily conclude a peace treaty. We are sure that a hasty peace without thorough consideration of the positions of Baku and Yerevan, as well as the realities on Earth, will not lead to anything good, on the contrary, it will create additional risks of tension and a possible escalation of the conflict; “ — RIA Novosti quotes the minister.

Russia is interested in sustainable peace and stability in the South Caucasus, Lavrov noted.

“We believe that it is important to consolidate the peace process in the regional paradigm, in the circle of friends: the countries of the South Caucasus and adjacent partner states, excluding destructive interference from outside. The desire of Washington and Brussels to remove Russia from the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan only increases security threats in the region, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

To successfully complete the negotiations between Baku and Yerevan, Moscow is ready, as before, to provide partnership assistance on the basis of trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2020-2022 in the form and volume that will be available on demand from both negotiating parties, the minister added.
