I remember that the martyr’s mother proudly said at her son’s funeral: “My son died an honorable death, I am proud of him, if I had 100 sons, I would sacrifice 100 for the Motherland.”
These words were spoken by Gulnara Mahmudova, the mother of policeman Seymur Mahmudov, who was martyred a year ago, on September 19, as a result of the terrorist act caused by the explosion of a mine placed in Khojavand by the sabotage-sabotage group of the Armenian illegal armed forces.
Now, a year later, we begin our conversation like this: “Karabakh returned with brave sons and mothers who raised those brave men.”

Seymour’s mother says that her son was very happy when our lands were liberated from occupation, and it was his greatest wish to see those places:
“After the liberation of the Seymourgil lands, they regularly came and went to Karabakh. Once, he brought a photograph he took in Shusha in winter and showed me: “Mom, look, you can see the snowy, misty mountains of Shusha. When I saw the picture, I said: “How proud you are! I never did not know that my son would be martyred and that picture he proudly painted on his tombstone. It did not occur to me that one day he would join the ranks of martyred mothers. But he was destined to be martyred. He wanted to. In August 2023, Seymour was at home. I told him that the war was over, but when will the final point be expressed? Be a martyr, we will put the final point! My son kept his word!”

“I was so tired that I wanted to be alone in the forest for a week”
G. Mahmudova says she felt that her son would be martyred:
“A month before Seymour was martyred, I was very worried. Whoever saw me asked me what had happened to you? I told him I was very tired. They said: go and rest somewhere with your sisters or relatives in one of the regions. But I didn’t want to. All I wanted was, let it be a forest, let’s stay there alone for a week.”
“God, I wonder whose house caught fire today?”
“On the night of Seymour’s martyrdom, it was not reported in the news that three of our policemen were martyred. I said, my God, whose house was burnt down tonight? Don’t tell me, my son Seymour was martyred.”
A morning without opening
“It was almost 11 in the morning. Someone downstairs said there are a lot of police in the yard and on the road. They are looking for Elsever, Seymour’s father. I said, yeah… Seymour is dead?!”
When I sent Seymour out of the house, I told him that I would not come back because I felt that way. When my son left, he looked at me as if he was saying goodbye to me. I cried, my brother-in-law’s daughter-in-law said, Aunt, what happened to you? I said Seymour is gone. He said, “Hello Aunt, Seymour always goes and he will come back.” I said no, Seymour will not come back. He did not come back. My son is gone forever… But I was preparing for my son’s wedding. I told his aunt to ask Seymour, if he has a lover, let’s go as a messenger, if not, there is a girl I have detained. Seymour told his aunt that I do not have a lover, but wait, we come and go, we will talk, I cannot say anything yet.
The “crying” martyr
His mother says she asked her son a question at his grave:
“We go to my son’s grave every day. It was winter months and it was drizzling. We went to visit my son. I used a word there. I told him, my son, I miss you so much, don’t miss me. Believe me, at that moment, the image of my son on the tombstone was right. A drop of tears fell from his eyes. I realized that my son misses us too…”
Time has stood still for Seymour’s family for a year now. Even though time stands still in their home, the glorious history written by the Azerbaijani police and the victorious army will be spoken of with pride for a long time to come, and this victory will remain in the memory of history forever.
It should be noted that today marks one year since the local anti-terrorist measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Karabakh. Local anti-terrorist measures include ensuring the provisions of the Tripartite Declaration, preventing large-scale provocations committed in the Karabakh economic region, disarming and withdrawing the Armenian armed forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, neutralizing its military infrastructure and returning the civilian population to liberated territories, as well as reconstruction and reconstruction works. It was initiated to ensure the safety of civilian and military workers and restore the constitutional order of the country.
