Austrian and German scholars Paul Duncan and Karsten Wollin have identified the author of the work, which was previously attributed to an unknown musician close to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
According to new information, the composition belongs to Mozart himself.
Oku.Az The press service of the Styrian Land Archives has published information on this subject.
The work “Milan Variations” was written in 1771 for a wedding in Milan. Mozart, aged 15, composed an opera for the same occasion.
Duncan, a music historian at the State Archives, was able to prove that the manuscript of the Milan Variations was prepared by Johannes Treg, a Viennese scribe, and was probably written during Mozart’s lifetime. Wollin, a German colleague of Duncan, studied the document in more detail.
