“Today, at the opening plenary session, I saw how far we have come in the first week of the COP. We still need to go further to implement the plans of the COP29 Presidency, because we have already shown what we can achieve” .
Oku.Az This was stated by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, President of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, at the COP29 Presidency press conference.
He said that agreement was reached on the rules provided for in Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, and a decision was made today on the work program under the non-trade approaches referred to in Article 6.8 of the Paris Agreement :
“These are critical steps taken towards concluding negotiations on Article 6. We also made important decisions regarding the full launch of the Fund at the Third Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Loss and Damage Response Fund organized by the COP29 Presidency of Azerbaijan in Baku. This means progress, but we still have a lot to do.”
“However, it is time for the parties to act quickly. Politicians have the power to reach a fair and ambitious agreement. They must live up to this responsibility. They must address this issue immediately and constructively. We need the parties to work together to find solutions to the main political problems,” added the minister.
