In Russia there is no tradition of completely covering Muslim women with dark clothing, said the head of the Russian Presidential Council for Human Rights (HRC), Valery Fadeev.
“Lately there is an opinion that a Muslim woman should be wrapped from head to toe in dark clothing.” – said Fadeev during a visit to the exhibition “Traditional female images in Russia”.
He noted that he did not see any examples of such dark clothing among the exhibits.
“They say that this new tradition is a woman covered from head to toe. Whose tradition is this? Perhaps a tradition, but brought from outside, it is not our tradition.” – stressed the head of the Human Rights Council.
According to Fadeev, the choice of that clothing represents a choice: “cultural, moral, if you will, political.”
