The secretary general of the PSOE in Aragon, who will leave his post at the regional congress scheduled for the first half of 2025, severely accused this Tuesday the Minister of Education, Pilar Alegría, one of the main candidates to succeed him. When asked if he considers the spokesperson for the government of Pedro Sánchez as the leader of the party in the community, Lambán was eloquent in his rejection: according to him, the general secretary of Aragonese socialism must “have principles” and no he can be “a simple passerby taking advantage of politics”.

This is how the former Aragonese president responded when asked if he considered Alegría the “natural candidate” to succeed him. After a categorical “no”, he listed the characteristics that his successor must have, from his point of view, elements that he clearly linked to the figure of the Minister of Education: “The one who leads the party in Aragon must be Aragonese or an Aragonese engaged in the territory, must give everything for the three provinces. He must know the truth well, have principles. He must not be a simple passerby profiting from politics, but he must be in politics to bring the best of himself and help society grow.

If a situation of lack of continued parliamentary support and budget extensions arises, if I were Pedro Sánchez, I would dissolve Parliament and call elections.

When asked if he considered that Alegría did not meet these requirements, he replied: “Judge for yourselves.” These are ideas that the former Aragonese president has expressed on several occasions, but which he now makes unequivocal.

These demonstrations took place before the presentation in Huesca of “A political emotion”, the autobiographical book written by the general secretary of the Aragonese PSOE. The event, which took place at the Huesca Museum and which brought together around a hundred people who filled the room, did not bring together the leadership of the Huesca party, in conflict with the federations of Zaragoza and Teruel and with Javier Lambán himself. for some time.

Concerning these absences, he was less explicit: “All those who come will be well received by me. » Yes, the secretary general of the PSOE of Zaragoza, Juan Antonio Sánchez Quero, the former president of the Cortes Javier Sada and former Huesca advisors from his cabinet like Marta Gastón or María Victoria Broto were present.

The former Aragonese president also spoke about the corruption scandals linked to his party and which have occurred in recent months. “Corruption is one of the deadliest cancers of democracy,” said Lambán, who, after emphasizing that he felt “very sorry for each case,” added that he felt it “even more” when it affected his party and said he wished “All dark clouds will clear away as soon as possible.” “I can boast that my government lasted eight years full of transparency and cleanliness, without any stain,” he stressed.

Regarding the lack of support from Pedro Sánchez and his government partners in Parliament, Javier Lambán wanted to give the “benefit of the doubt” to the president of the central government, but recalled that in Congress there is “a conservative majority”.

“A country needs above all stability and when its partners do not provide it, it is difficult to govern,” declared the Aragonese leader, who then expressed his position on the continuity of the Executive: “If a situation lack of continued parliamentary support, budgetary extensions, I, in Sánchez’s situation, would dissolve Parliament and call elections,” he said, before insisting that this was his position personal.
