A secret underground prison was discovered in Bangladesh where political prisoners were kept for many years.

Former prisoners claim that they were tortured here, not allowed to see sunlight and some even lost their minds. According to the publication, the prison’s code name was “Aynagor” or “House of Mirrors.”
As the NYT noted, with Sheikh Hasina’s return to power in 2009, a new wave of repression spread across the country. After surviving an assassination attempt in 2004, the former prime minister became a “paranoid and autocratic” leader like his father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s first president.
According to human rights activists, since 2009, more than 700 people have been detained in Bangladesh for political reasons, 80 of them have been found dead and another 150 are missing.
Many of those who disappeared after Hasina was ousted in August following anti-government protests were found in a secret underground prison code-named the House of Mirrors. It is located in the military garrison area of Dhaka. Among the prisoners were lawyers, activists, diplomats and representatives of the army.
