The strange sound astronaut Barry Wilmore heard on the Boeing Starliner spacecraft has stopped and is associated with the International Space Station’s dedicated audio system, NASA news director Cheryl Warner told Newsweek.
“The speaker feedback was the result of audio adjustments between the space station and Starliner.” – she said.
The space station’s audio system can connect “multiple devices and modules,” so noise can often be heard there, Warner said.
The Starliner with two passengers on board, Barry Wilmore and Sunita WilliamsThe mission was to be launched into space on June 5, 2024. The mission was expected to last eight days, with the astronauts returning on June 13 and 14. However, due to a malfunction of the ship, the return date was constantly postponed. On August 24, it became known that the astronauts would return to Earth no earlier than February 2025, on another ship.
Earlier, Ars Technica, citing a recording of Wilmore’s conversation with Mission Control Center (MCC) in Houston, reported that the Boeing Starliner began making strange sounds.
“I have a question about Starliner. I hear a strange sound coming through the speaker… I don’t know what’s causing it.” Wilmore told the dispatcher. The astronaut suggested that this could be due to a problem with the connection between the spacecraft and the ISS.
