National Police evict squatters from building symbolic of movement in Valencia: five homes still remain

This Tuesday, the National Police carried out a new eviction operation in the building located at number two of caixers streetin Valencia, which for years has become one of the largest representatives of the squatter movement in the city. Until now, the owners had only recovered one of the eight floors of the building. However, this morning, the National Police managed to evacuate two more houses, doors number one and six.

The first eviction, that of the first door, where a mother lived with her 17-year-old son, was scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and was carried out at 10:00 a.m. after the arrival of the judicial delegation who, after unsuccessful negotiations with the tenant, gave her half an hour to collect all her belongings.

As for door number six, this was the second attempt by the police to evict him. The four young people who lived in the apartment, and who claim to be in a vulnerable situation, no longer lived there, hence the eviction. scheduled for 9:00 a.m. has been reached.

The aim is to transform the building into luxury tourist residences

The strategy of the investment fund Good Capital SL, owner of the building, was to vacate the building gradually, house by house. However, the squatters had managed to obtain judicial extensions that allowed them to continue residing in some of the houses, arguing their situation of vulnerability.

Despite the evictions, the Caixers group maintains that the social protests they stopped the plans transform the building into luxury tourist apartments, which is the objective of the investment fund. Currently, the ground floor of the building houses a social center that offers various activities open to the public.

With the two new evictions, the Caixers 2 building still has five occupied homes. The future of these homes is in the hands of the upcoming legal clashes between the squatters and the owners.
