Navarra farmers become “agroinfluencers” to bring the countryside closer to schools

Thus, 36 6th grade girls and boys learned what it consists of and what is the use importance of the primary sectorled by three agricultural influencers: Pello Sarratea, a breeder from Almandoz; Marta Eslava, farmer from Barásoain; and Nerea Mortalena, Arrayoz breeder.

“East It is very important that they know early on where their food comes from, thanks to whom, to what work, they access their plate and in what way; “It is an essential task, being a human being needs to eat, but it is also a much broader question: it is economic, environmental, social…”, explains the technical director of the UAGN Sandra Muñoz , who made the presentations at the start of the event.

In fact, it is precisely the objective of the project, of ‘Agroinfluencers’: communicate the agri-food sector to society, directly, through its professionals, without intermediaries – pun intended -, with truth, to fight against misinformation or the distorted image of the field, and show all its attractions. “Agroinfluencers” in action.

“I explained to them difference between dairy cows and beef cows; how we care for animals; how they give birth; how they spend one season in the stables and another in the mountain pastures and how we thus take care of the environment and the Navarrese landscape; etc. “, says Sarratea. “Additionally, we emphasized that all three of us live and work in rural areas, by choice; We want to live in our cities, there are those who, like me or Marta, left office work or classrooms to be part of the primary sector and be able to reconcile. Thanks to work like ours, cities are not abandoned“People continue to live there and it also attracts services like schools, doctors… so that more people can live there in good conditions and decide to stay there,” continued her colleague from Arrayoz. .

Both also reported that they carry out all the process required by their products: from the breeding of animals to the preparation of said foods and their direct sale.

“In my case, I exhibited curiosities, like that asparagus is harvested at dawnbecause by preventing sunlight from reaching it, the water that composes it is better preserved; or that agriculture and animal husbandry originated in the Neolithic Age, after a technological change that shifted human beings from hunter-gatherers to farmers and herders,” said Eslava, who has a degree in anthropology.

“Not only that, we taught them different seeds and clarified that the landscapes we know, such as fields composed of plants that grow from these seeds, are man-made,” he continued.

The students listened as they played these different seeds presented in different bags, before filling out a form in which they had to associate three photos of three different grains with their respective landscapes, in addition to indicating the name of said grain.

Below there was a small explanation of each product obtained from each culture. “The file is to take with you, so that you can leave with what you have learned; because it doesn’t stop there: you can continue to discover this very interesting world of agriculture, livestock and urban life through the social networks of our agroinfluencers“, that we also put them on the maps”, concluded Muñoz and with it the first action of the “agroinfluencers”, which became a success.
