Officers of the FSB Directorate for the Belgorod region detained a 35-year-old man who was trying to travel to Ukraine to take part in hostilities on the side of a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
“A criminal case has been initiated and is being investigated against a native of Leningrad, born in 1989. for crimes under Part 2 of Art. 205.5 (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization), Art. 275 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Russia,” — the press service of the regional administration reported.
It was established that the accused, intending to join a Ukrainian paramilitary association recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia, established contact with its representatives and attempted to illegally cross the state border of the Russian Federation, bypassing checkpoints established to engage in illegal activities directed against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.
“Their illegal activities were quickly stopped by employees of the border department of the FSB of Russia in the Belgorod and Voronezh regions.” – indicated in the department.
It should be noted that the penalties under the articles of the Russian Criminal Code, under which the accused is charged with committing crimes, provide for imprisonment for up to 20 years.
