Nearly thirty dead after intense night of Israeli attacks in Gaza

Nearly thirty Palestinians were killed in the early hours of Saturday in the Gaza Strip after intense Israeli airstrikes across the devastated enclave, according to local and medical sources.

While the Ministry of Health will announce the deaths in hospitals in the last few hours, since October 7, more than 40,600 people have died in Gaza, mostly women and children, and around 93,800 have been injured.

Last night, at least seventeen Palestinians were killed west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, nine of them in the firing of two artillery shells at a building, Palestinian sources reported.

In addition, four other people died due to an Israeli shelling on the top floor of a building belonging to the Hamad family, and four others during the attack on a house belonging to the Zaqout family, in the Al-Hasayna neighborhood.

“Five civilians were killed and 15 other members of the Abu Bakr family were injured when the occupation targeted a house of the Al Jabour family” in Khan Yunis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, detailed the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

In the devastated northern city of Gaza, medics from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) transferred three bodies and several wounded to the Baptist hospital, after Israeli warplanes attacked a house in the Sabra neighborhood, south of Gazati.

In the Zeitun neighborhood, according to Wafa, three other Palestinians lost their lives when an Israeli missile bombed their home, and four others died in an airstrike on the Nassar family apartment in the Jabalia camp (north).

Following the latest evacuation orders by Israeli forces in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, overcrowding and living conditions in the Al-Mawasi humanitarian zone, which occupies approximately 14% of the Gaza Strip, have become even more difficult.

“Overpopulation, the huge lack of water and the scarcity of sanitation services are fuelling the spread of diseases. We are unable to cope with the enormous amount of needs,” a coordinator for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) denounced yesterday.

The NGO claims to treat between 300 and 400 cases daily in a clinic in the region, 200 of which are related to contagious skin conditions that mainly affect children.

Tensions in Lebanon

As the Gaza Strip is under attack, tensions between Israel and Lebanon are also rising. A barrage of about 40 rockets was launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory overnight, in the latest exchange of fire since October, with the majority intercepted and causing no casualties, the Israeli military reported this morning.

“Following the sirens that sounded between 22:26 and 23:02 (hours) in the Western Galilee region, around forty launches were identified crossing Lebanon towards Israeli territory,” the military statement detailed.

The army also claimed to have shelled launch points in southwestern Lebanon, including in the Naqoura, Tayr Harfa and Yaroun regions. In Tayr Harfa, the army also said yesterday that it had attacked a military structure, after suspected Hezbollah members entered it. In addition, artillery attacked several rocket launchers allegedly “ready to use” in the Maryamine and Yaroun regions, in the south of the neighboring country.
