The Netherlands will tighten controls at its land borders with other Schengen countries over the coming weeks as part of its fight against illegal migration. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
The measures are designed for 6 months, they will be introduced on December 9, said the press secretary of the Minister of Migration. Marjolein Faber.
The border controls are part of an offensive against illegal immigration proposed by the nationalist PVV party. Geert Wildersthe largest in the country’s governing coalition.
As previously reported, the measures will include limiting asylum permits to a maximum of three years and limiting opportunities for asylum seekers who are allowed to stay to reunite with family members.
The Netherlands has tightened border controls to reduce the number of migrants after France and Germany announced similar measures, the newspaper notes.
The strict new border controls to be introduced in the Netherlands are part of a coalition agreement reached by the parties in July.
