Two more cases of a new strain of monkeypox have been identified in the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom Health Services Agency (UKHSA) said in a statement posted on the government website on Monday. In late October, the department reported the first identified case. It was recorded in London, it was about a person who had recently visited African countries.

“Two cases of monkeypox (strain) Clade Ib were identified among people who had household contact with the first infected person,” – says the message.

The UKHSA said the number of confirmed cases of the disease had risen to three. but the risk to the public “remains low.”

In late August, the British health agency reported that authorities were preparing for the possible emergence and spread of a new strain of monkeypox in the country.

Former head of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the monkeypox outbreak in Africa a public health emergency of international concern.

The Africa Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) on August 13 declared a health emergency due to the monkeypox outbreak on the continent and called on the international community to help collect around 2 million vaccine doses.

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that is potentially harmful to people with weakened immune systems. The infection is accompanied by fever, intoxication, enlargement of the lymph nodes and the subsequent spread of the rash, first in the form of spots that transform into blisters, after opening ulcers form, after they heal – scabs and, when fall, scars. With a mild course, the disease usually disappears on its own and lasts 14 to 21 days, RIA Novosti reminds.
