New Houthi attack on an oil tanker in the Red Sea

At 02:57 UTC, the captain of a merchant ship reported that two small boats were approaching. The first boat was carrying 3-5 people, and the second, about 10. The two boats, which were carrying Yemeni Houthis, intercepted a merchant ship, leading to a brief exchange of small arms fire.

This was reported by the Alexey Zheleznov channel.

The distance between a small ship and a merchant ship then increased to 2 nautical miles. At 05:00 UTC, the captain reported that the merchant ship had been hit by two unknown shells and then by a third. The ship became uncontrollable, but there were no reports of casualties.

The Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion, which was attacked in the Red Sea, caught fire after being hit. According to the latest information from the British maritime agency UKMTO, the ship was drifting 77 nautical miles west of Hudaydah, Yemen, lost engine power and went out of control.

Earlier, Kursor wrote that the Houthis had announced attacks on several ships in the Arabian and Red Seas. As a result of these attacks, three ships were hit: the bulk carrier Verbena in the Arabian Sea, as well as the oil tanker Athina and the bulk carrier Seaguardia in the Red Sea. Anti-ship ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones were used in the attacks.

In addition, Kursor has already reported that Yemen’s Houthis fired four missiles at merchant ships in the Red Sea. In response to the attack, a Houthi patrol boat was destroyed and 4 unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down.
