‘New Journey to the West’ Producer Lee Joo-hyung Dies in Car Accident… Mourning Continues

Producer Lee Joo-hyung (35), who participated in directing popular entertainment programs such as ‘Three Meals a Day Gochang’ and ‘New Journey to the West,’ died in a car accident, prompting a wave of condolences.

According to the broadcaster, PD Lee died in a car accident while returning home from work near Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, at around 0:26 on the 22nd. PD Lee, who was heading home, had an accident in which the taxi he was riding in collided with a parked tour bus and then a light vehicle on the road, and PD Lee died at the scene.

PD Lee, who joined CJ ENM in 2016, participated in the production of ‘Three Meals a Day Gochang’, ‘New Journey to the West’ Seasons 2 and 3, ‘The Great Escape 4’, ‘Korean Monster’, ‘How to Grow Up’ and ‘Major League Comedy’. In July last year, he moved to Borderless Film, a video production company acquired by Coupang Play, and was involved in the production of Disney+ sports documentary ‘Full Count’. He was also an expectant father, due to give birth to his first child in December.

Seven producers of ‘New Journey to the West,’ including Na Young-seok and Shin Hyo-jeong, said through Media Today that they would remember the deceased, saying, “Producer Lee Joo-hyung was a diligent young man who had more responsibility than anyone else in his work and always did his best until the very end.” Netizens also paid tribute through ‘New Journey to the West’s official SNS, saying, “May the deceased rest in peace.”
