The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroannounced this Saturday a “great global anti-fascist festival” -which will be held from January 8 to 10, 2025-, during the closing of the World Congress of Antifascist Youth and Students, which began this Friday in Caracas.
In a broadcast on state channel VTV, the president supported the idea so that “thousands and thousands of leaders can come” to accompany the Venezuelan people. January 10when he plans to take the oath assume the next presidential termafter a contested re-election on July 28.
He also supported the creation of an anti-fascist training school based in Caracasa proposal from the Minister of Youth, Grecia Colmenares, to have the “tools necessary for the definitive defeat of fascism”.
Maduro proposed that this school integrate “all the training methods” that young people from China, Russia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Bolivia and “all over the world”.
During the meeting, according to Colmenares, 500 delegates from 72 countries formed seven working groups to discuss, among other points, how “fascism has operated around social networks and media.”
This congress is part of two anti-fascist meetings organized by the Venezuelan government, context of political crisis after Maduro was proclaimed winner of the July electionsa result – still unknown in detail – denounced as fraudulent by the majority opposition, which insists on the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia.
