Nigeria at COP29: “We must make measurable progress”

“COP29 was seamless and well organized. We were impressed with everything, from the organization of meetings and side events in the pavilions to transportation. Everything was well coordinated and safe.”

This was announced by the Director of Environmental Protection and Monitoring of the Niger Delta Development Commission, a member of the Nigerian delegation at COP29. Onuoha Obeka Oku.Az-a while sharing their impressions about the organization of the conference.

He spoke about the climate challenges facing his country and expressed his hope that COP29 will make progress in solving environmental problems.

“Efforts must be made for the practical implementation of most of the decisions taken here in Baku so that we can make measurable progress when we review the results in Brazil next year,” the Nigerian representative said.

Obeka said Nigeria faces several consequences of climate change, from droughts in the north to floods in the south, from urban warming to job losses.

“The Nigerian government is doing everything it can to solve environmental problems. Agencies are working to overcome some of these consequences through cooperation with international organizations to improve adaptation mechanisms, improve technologies, increase awareness of the people and build capacity,” he said.
