According to the CNN poll of polls released on October 16, the US presidential race does not have a clear favorite. On average, Kamala Harris, candidate of the Democratic Party, has the support of 50% of voters, while 49% are willing to vote for Donald Trump, representing the Republican Party.
The average is based on five polls, two of which give Harris a slight lead and three that show a tie between the candidates. One of those polls, conducted by Fox News, showed 50% of voters supporting Trump, while Harris received 48%.
Among Harris supporters, key reasons for supporting included disgust for their opponent, defense of democracy, and abortion rights. Trump supporters, in turn, focused on the economy, immigration and the candidate’s personal qualities.
The United States presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. Incumbent President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he would not seek re-election and nominated Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate. His candidacy was supported by Democratic Party leaders in each of the 50 states.
