No major Russian electricity operator is interested in the Abkhazian energy sector, said First Deputy Prime Minister of Abkhazia and Minister of Energy and Transport Jansukh Nanba on Abkhazian television.
He stressed that what was discussed with his Russian colleagues was not the sale, but the realization of joint investment projects.
“We were told that given the current situation, i.e. the north-west region, new territories, emerging opportunities and potential, at this stage the energy system of the Republic of Abkhazia is not of interest to any particular operator,” – said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to him, a program is being discussed to renew the republic’s energy system; These are capital investments in key facilities, which will bring the energy sector to a “normal level of operation.”
“To say that our energy will be sold or transferred to anyone is absolutely unfounded. “We are talking about a program that, with the help of our Russian colleagues, will give us the opportunity to attract some kind of credit financial resources on preferential terms.” – Nanba emphasized.
Abkhazia is considering the possibility of solving the problems of the energy industry by gasifying the country. Authorized Russian companies have already submitted several schemes for consideration.
“At this moment, our Russian colleagues from the Ministry of Energy and I practically agree on the opinion that it is necessary to agree on a plan that will allow the gasification of the Republic of Abkhazia to create generation facilities that produce electricity.” – Nanba said.
