North Korea said it launched its new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Hwasong-19, on Thursday, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.
Earlier it was reported that the DPRK at approximately 7:10 (1:10 Moscow time) launched a long-range ballistic missile, presumably an intercontinental ballistic missile, from the Pyongyang area towards the Sea of Japan.
According to the Japanese government, the missile’s flight range was 1,000 kilometers, the altitude and flight duration were the longest of all launches.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said that “the launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles demonstrates determination to confront enemies” who have accused him of aggravating the situation in the region. He added that “nothing will change” the country’s policy to strengthen the country’s nuclear capabilities.
