Now earthquakes hit Cuba – EADaily, November 11, 2024

In less than a month, a new attack occurred in Cuba. An earthquake occurred in the east of the country, once again causing power outages. Fortunately, only in one part of Cuba. The rest is still being restored after Hurricane Rafael.

On November 11, two earthquakes occurred in a row off the coast of Cuba, 30 kilometers offshore at a depth of 18 kilometers. The latter has a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale. The electricity supply has been attacked again.

“Perceptible earthquakes in eastern Cuba caused damage to the electrical infrastructure. Damage occurred in Granma and Santiago de Cuba, with transformers and poles falling. The national electrical grid was not affected and work is currently underway to restore it.” — says the energy system operator Union Electrica.

The company is deploying teams of specialists to restore power lines. Although recovery work after Hurricane Rafael still continues throughout the country.

This year is the third time that Cuba has experienced problems with electricity. On October 18, the most powerful power plant failed and then Hurricane Rafael devastated the country.

The country’s authorities explained the situation of serious damage to the energy system by the fact that, due to American sanctions, the country’s income is extremely low and it cannot purchase the necessary equipment.

The corporate publication of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, Vestnik ATOR, reported that the blackouts did not spare the hotels where tourists live, but rather they run the generators there.
