Francisca Porras Verdugo, retired nurse from Cantalpino (Salamanca), is the first confirmed victim in Castile and León of the effects of DANA which hit the province of Valencia a week ago. Yesterday, the Faculty of Nursing expressed in a statement its “deepest pain and sadness” for her loss, as she is the second nurse to lose her life due to severe weather resulting from the storm.
“His departure leaves us with a great absence and a pain shared by the entire Valencian nursing community,” said the Faculty of Nursing, who recalled his career of almost four decades dedicated to nursing. In addition, She was an exceptional professional within the Valencia Health Emergency Service. “Her vocation and commitment were exemplary and her work as an emergency nurse saved countless lives and provided support in critical situations,” he added.
In addition to her professional commitment, she was an active and engaged citizen. Between 2010 and 2011 she acquired the position of municipal councilor in Paiporta, from where she promoted social support and public health initiatives. He also actively participated in the Civil Protection of his locality, extending his work of service and care to areas that went beyond his professional duties. “Her legacy at Paiporta is an example of dedication and public service that will always be recorded,” said the Valencia College of Nursing.
His professional colleagues also highlighted his human quality and his empathy. “His closeness and commitment to each patient reflected his true vocation to help, which went beyond any obligation. His sensitivity and affection were manifested in each intervention, leaving an indelible mark on those he treated and those who worked alongside him,” they remember.
Precisely, this Thursday, the Cantalpino City Council published a note in which it conveys its condolences to all the family and friends of Francisca Porras Verdugo, a descendant of the municipality who resided for years in Paiporta, one of the Valencian populations most punished by DANA.
Its mayor, Manuel Hierro, explained in statements to Ical that Francisca mainly went to the city in the summer, where her relatives live. They had known for days that she was one of those lost in the tragedy, but it was only a few hours ago that they received confirmation of his death.
The municipal council has decided to declare official mourning in the town from noon to midnight on Sunday, November 10. Likewise, he also asked for a minute of silence in memory of his compatriot tomorrow, at 12:00 p.m., in the Spanish Steps.
These days, Cantalpino, in collaboration with the City Council of Villoruela and the municipality of El Pedroso de la Armuña, has collected food, cleaning and clothing products, as well as shovels and boots to send them in Valencia on Saturday. Three vans will leave this area of the province of Salamanca to help those affected by DANA.
