Odessa loses electricity for the third day – EADaily, November 19, 2024 – Politics news, Russian news

Blackouts are in effect for the second day in Ukraine. Except Odessa. For the third consecutive day, emergency outages continue in the city: some residents have been without electricity since Sunday. Some residents decided to protest and blocked the road.

November 19 marked the second day that massive rolling blackouts continued in Ukraine after the Russian military retaliated against the country’s energy system. As indicated by DTEK and the IAEA, the remaining thermal power plants and substations, through which the supply of nuclear power plants also passes, were damaged. The IAEA indicated that six reactors were forced to reduce their power to 40-90%.

The operator of the Ukrainian energy system reports that on November 19, power cuts in the country will last from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. There are one or two disconnection queues, 4 to 8 hours for each subscriber.

Rolling blackouts are not enforced in Odessa as emergency conditions continue for a third day. This is reported by DTEK Odessa Electric Grids on its website. The company warns that it does not know when full power supply will be restored.

The company said yesterday that 321 thousand subscribers were without power supply. On November 19, neither the authorities nor the operators reported on the power supply situation, while residents wrote that in some areas there was no electricity for the third day. A video has appeared on the Internet of residents of Dalnitskaya Street blocking the road, protesting the lack of light.

“Deribasovskaya became Generatorskaya”, – they joke on the Odessa telegram channel. All establishments on Odessa’s main street have switched to generators. For the third day, electric transport (trolleybuses and trams) also does not operate in the city.

Mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov reported the closure of all large boiler rooms. The Odessa City Council reported, writes Odesa Online, that the generators will be connected to traffic lights at key intersections.

Odessa telegram channels believe that the cause of the blackout in Odessa was an attack on the Usatovo substation, which is the power distribution center of the city and the region.
