A high-level event on the theme “Scaling up efforts to triple nuclear energy” was held within the framework of COP29.
AZERTAC reports that the event was organized by the COP29 Presidency, the United States and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samir Mammadov expressed confidence that the climate change negotiations held within the framework of COP29 will make an important contribution to deepening global cooperation: “Everything The world knows that Azerbaijan wants to be a leader in this area of renewable energy, and Azerbaijan has shared its future plans in this regard. These plans include reducing carbon emissions by 50 percent to. 2050 and increase the share of renewable energy by 30 percent by 2030.
The assistant to the president of the United States, White House climate advisor Ali Zaidi, pointed out that to achieve the 1.5 degree goal it is necessary to use all the tools that zero emissions offer. According to him, among these important tools are atomic, solar and hydrogen energy.
Kazakhstan’s Deputy Energy Minister Sungat Yesimkhanov highlighted that the energy sector played an important role in the country’s economy during Kazakhstan’s 30 years of independence. He said that Kazakhstan fulfills its commitments in the fight against climate change and supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions and aims to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060.
Abdullah Bugrahan Karaveli, President of the Turkish Energy, Atomic and Mineral Research Agency, stressed that Turkey supports and is committed to the fight against global climate change: “We have made great achievements in this field by fulfilling our obligations. Also One of them is the year 2053. The energy sector plays an important role in the fight against climate change. Turkey’s electricity needs have increased by 3.2 percent each year, but are expected to reach 20 gigawatts. “It is being built and its potential is equal to 4,800 gigawatts. At the end of 2028, 4 reactors will be put into operation. “We are negotiating.”
He noted that Türkiye aims to increase its nuclear energy potential to 50,000 gigawatts.
