Olleta, in Leoz, will build a new footbridge on its river to cross safely

The Department of Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Navarra, through the General Directorate of Public Works, has launched a call for tenders for an amount of 141,037 euros for the construction of a pedestrian and cycle bridge on the Sansoain river in Olleta (Leoz). The work, which will have a completion time of 2 and a half months, is designed in compliance with universal accessibility standards.

This footbridge will provide a new route for pedestrians and cyclists that will allow them to cross the city in complete safety. The new structure will be located downstream of the existing bridge Road NA-5110 and will improve the safety of pedestrians and automobile traffic, by eliminating the need to share the roadway of the current bridge, which lacks sidewalks and is only 5.85 meters wide, explains the Provincial Executive in a press release.

The project offers a metal walkway 19.60 meters long and 3 meters wide. The pavement and its entrances will be covered in concrete, with a striped or grooved finish, forming grooves or channels to facilitate water drainage and improve anti-slip characteristics. This design also seeks to aesthetically integrate with Olleta’s surroundings.

The structure will have a slope of approximately 5% to adapt to the difference in height between the two banks of the river, and these two so-called slopes like the rest of the workwill meet universal accessibility requirements. The guardrails will be 1.30 meters high and will be equipped with handrails. The structure of the footbridge is supported by two reinforced concrete abutments based on piles 450 mm in diameter and 8 meters deep.

To complete this infrastructure, the creation of two pedestrian crossings on the NA-5110 roadone on each side of the new footbridge. In addition, the existing lighting will be reinforced by the addition of a luminaire compatible with current ones, which will be installed in an existing column.

The urban center of Olleta is divided by the Sansoain Riverthe Lergo ravine and the NA-5110 highway. Currently, pedestrian and bicycle traffic is carried out via the bridge road, which does not have sidewalks. This new footbridge will solve this problem by providing a safe and accessible route for everyone.
