On the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian delegation to the G20 summit, which will be held on November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro, will be headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This was announced in a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.
According to the diplomat, the meeting of leaders will open with the launch of the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty, an emblematic initiative of the Brazilian President. This temporary coordination mechanism aims to find a way out of problematic issues in international cooperation in the field of food security.
“Russia intends to announce at the summit that it will join the alliance. The G20 stated this year that there is enough food in the world, but the problem lies in limiting effective access to it. “This is largely due to the geoeconomic fragmentation created by the West and illegal sanctions against Russian agricultural exports.” – noted Zakharova.
He clarified that Lavrov’s speeches are scheduled for November 18 during plenary sessions on the topics of the fight against inequality, hunger and poverty, as well as the reform of global institutions.
“Alongside the summit, a series of negotiations and bilateral contacts between Sergei Lavrov are also planned.” – added the diplomat.
