on Sandu’s order, a search for Gagauzia’s leadership began – EADaily, November 21, 2024 – Politics News, News from Moldova and Transnistria

Chisinau police are carrying out a search today, November 21, at the house of the chairman of the Gagauzia Executive Committee, Ilya Uzun. Images that appeared in public space show masked people breaking into his house.

Subsequently, the press secretary of the Prosecutor’s Office for the Fight against Organized Crime and Special Cases (PBOPOD) Emilia Gaitura confirmed that special events are being held with the support of members of the Fulger special forces brigade (Moldnia) in the framework of a criminal case for tax evasion and money laundering.

“Law enforcement officials will provide details after the completion of procedural and criminal actions, during which, according to the law, suspects enjoy the presumption of innocence.” Gaitura added.

Security forces also went to the house of a deputy of the Gagauzia People’s Assembly. Ruslan Unilovsky.

Let us remember that previous searches had already been carried out against other leaders of the Gagauzia Executive Committee. The formal basis was the traditional formulation used by the authorities to intimidate the opposition: “the fight against illegal financing of parties, money laundering and tax evasion.” And two weeks ago they arrested a public figure of the autonomy miguel vlah for allegedly calling for the assassination of the current president Maia Sandu.

A criminal case is currently before the courts against the head of the Gagauzia administration Evgeniy Gutsul. The Moldovan prosecutor’s office accused the politician of complicity in the illegal financing of the declared unconstitutional Shor party, whose leader Ilan Shor Now he heads the opposition bloc “Victoria”.

As reported EADaily Hutsul is confident that after the rigged elections, which led to Maia Sandu retaining the presidency, he will take revenge on Gagauzia. The reason is that the overwhelming majority of voters in the region supported the opposition candidate, former Attorney General Alexander Stoianoglo, and spoke out against the European integration of the Republic of Moldova in the constitutional referendum. According to her, the PDS (the ruling presidential party “Action and Solidarity”) also demands that Sandu put pressure on Comrat to force the autonomous authorities to “reject cooperation with Russia.”

“I expect strong pressure and revenge on your part towards Gagauz autonomy. There are already calls from Sandu supporters to liquidate the Gagauz autonomy, punish it and deprive it of funding, although all our taxes go to the state budget.” – said Evgenia Gutsul.
