On the escalation in Lebanon: we need additional financing

The UN Human Rights Office spoke about what is happening now in Lebanon.

Reuters reports this.

It should be noted that among the victims of the Israeli airstrike in northern Lebanon, more than half are women and children.

U.N. human rights spokesman Jeremy Lawrence said at a news conference in Geneva that of the 22 dead, 12 were women and two children. It noted that the attack hit a four-story residential building and expressed serious concerns about compliance with international humanitarian law, the laws of war and the principles of distinction, proportionality and proportionality. Lawrence called for an investigation.

Meanwhile, two UN agencies are calling for more funding to address “growing” needs in Lebanon, where the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah terrorist group has displaced hundreds of thousands of people. UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban and World Food Program Deputy Executive Director Karl Skau stressed in a joint statement that needs will continue to increase and additional funding is needed without conditions.

Recall that Kursor wrote that in tunnels located in the southern part of Lebanon, at a depth of 8 m, Hezbollah stored Russian weapons.

Currently, this village is controlled by the IDF and the Israeli flag flies from the minaret.

Rear Admiral and IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari guided journalists through these tunnels. As it became known, the militants were planning an attack against Israel on the eve of the events of October 7, 2023. Inside these underground structures there was a kitchen equipped with appliances, groceries and a coffee maker.

A portrait of slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah hung on the wall of one of the bedrooms, and weapons and light vehicles stood nearby. Hagari noted that these bunkers are better equipped than similar Hamas facilities in Gaza: “Just a few days ago I saw in another village rockets launched from Iran through Syria. These are Iranian and Russian weapons.”
