On the eve of COP29, there was a “dragon” race in the Caspian Sea: “Not only politicians”

“If in previous COPs only rowing was organized, this year several water sports are held at the same time.”

These words Oku.AzDirector of the “C Team” (China Champions for Climate Action) in his statement Nanfeng saying.

He said that in these contests young people investigate and discuss our green future:

“And this year’s innovation is that if in previous years rowing activities were organized within COP26, COP27 and COP28, this year several water sports are held at the same time. People of different ages, especially young people, not only compete in water sports, but also with our green future, conduct research on it and discuss.

The director noted that for COP29 they plan to involve not only politicians and negotiators, but all communities:

“Our goal is to bring together the private sector and different layers of society to ensure the implementation of real activities, not just debates and political statements.

This event also inspired the launch of similar large-scale activities in South America. Brazil is already making plans to expand these types of initiatives. “Azerbaijan has set a strong example in this matter and we hope its influence will expand on a global scale.”

Nan Feng recalled that they organized a big event on November 17:

“The event featured a dragon boat parade, rowing competitions and other activities simultaneously. In addition, a call for action against climate change was made. The event was attended by important guests such as the presidents of World Rowing, the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and the International Canoeing Federations. It was an initiative jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Rowing and Canoeing Federation.

About 100 people gathered at the Caspian Sea and showed their solidarity for a greener world. “It was one of the biggest outdoor events and we are very lucky to have the support of the local authorities.”
